Training and Education

Dr. Harkins graduated with high honors from the University of Notre Dame before going on to medical school at the Medical College of Georgia. Dr. Harkins next completed a 6-year integrated plastic surgery residency at the University of South Florida in Tampa. In addition to his hands-on training, Dr. Harkins has also participated in academic research studies on topics that include breast reconstruction after mastectomy. During his residency, Dr. Harkins completed additional training in reconstructive surgery, microsurgery, and maxillofacial surgery. He is excited to bring this specialized training to the Marietta cosmetic surgery community.

Accomplishments and Awards

Dr. Harkins is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, a distinction awarded only to those plastic surgeons who have completed rigorous training in plastic surgery. During his education, Dr. Harkins was a member of the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Established in 1902, Alpha Omega Alpha honors the top academic performers in each medical school class. Dr. Harkins serves as Section Chair of Plastic Surgery at WellStar Kennestone Hospital. He is also a Gold Star recipient for service from the Tampa Veterans Administration.

More than a Surgeon

Although he was educated throughout the country, Dr. Harkins is a Georgia native. In his hometown of East Cobb, he played cornerback on the Walton High School football team. Dr. Harkins is an accomplished boxer and was a welterweight champion in Notre Dame’s famous Bengal Bouts. During his residency in Florida, Dr. Harkins met his wife, gastroenterologist Dr. Shanil Harkins. They are the proud parents of two sons. Dr. Harkins is pleased to live in Georgia and serve the wider community.
