James B. Depew, MD, FACS, Double Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon in Greater Atlanta

James Depew, MD, FACS, joined Plastic Surgery Center of the South in 2017 and is honored to be part of our exceptional team of board-certified plastic surgeons in Marietta, Georgia. As a surgeon certified in both plastic surgery and general surgery, he enjoys using his talents to help patients attain the aesthetic improvements they envision for themselves. 

Training and Education

Dr. Depew double-majored in chemistry and mathematics at Virginia Commonwealth University and graduated with high honors. He completed medical school at the Medical College of Virginia.  

After an intern year in general surgery at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, Dr. Depew undertook a 5-year general surgery residency in Savannah, GA, at Memorial Health University Medical Center – Mercer School of Medicine. He completed his training with a 3-year fellowship in plastic surgery at the University of Tennessee in Memphis.

Dr. Depew has mastered a wide range of cosmetic and reconstructive procedures. At Plastic Surgery Center of the South, some of his favorite surgical and nonsurgical procedures to perform include:

Dr. Depew is certified by both the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a prestigious designation that is a testament to his surgical skill, patient care, and ethical conduct. 

Most notably, Dr. Depew was inducted as a member of the Arnold P. Gold Foundation for dedication and commitment to compassionate and humanistic care. He has also earned “Patients Top Choice” status with U.S. News & World Report, where he is further recognized for his attentiveness, thoroughness, and patient care.

Dr. Depew is actively involved with several professional organizations, including:

He has also advanced his field by conducting novel research in facial reanimation and surgical quality care improvements.

More Than a Surgeon

Early in life, Dr. Depew developed an interest in computer programming and technology. He has built on this interest, exploring new tools to improve surgical outcomes. In his spare time, he enjoys scuba diving and international travel. He has a keen eye for beauty and ranks natural light photography as one of his favorite hobbies.

Dr. Depew met his wife, Jessa, during his internship in Knoxville, TN. She is a regional medical director for a pharmaceutical company treating rare organ diseases. His sons attend the Atlanta Trilingual Academy, where they study Mandarin and Spanish.
