Dr. James Depew, a board-certified surgeon, is now part of an exceptional team of plastic surgeons in Marietta at Plastic Surgery Center of the South.
Marietta, GA (November 2018) — The Plastic Surgery Center of the South, which includes a team of plastic surgeons noted for their experience and expertise, recently welcomed Dr. James Depew to the plastic surgery practice in Marietta, GA.
Dr. Depew returns to Georgia, where he completed a 5-year general surgery residency in Savannah at Memorial Health University Medical Center – Mercer School of Medicine.
The Plastic Surgery Center of the South is one of the leading practices in the Southeast, attracting plastic surgery patients from throughout the greater Atlanta area. Dr. Depew says being part of a practice with such an outstanding reputation has been a goal since he decided to specialize in plastic surgery. He says he “fell in love with Atlanta” while training at Piedmont Hospital and values the city’s “strong multicultural background.”
“I’m looking forward to living up to the standards of professionalism and patient care that the surgeons here established years ago,” says Dr. Depew. “I knew this would be a great fit and that this practice would become part of my family.”
Dr. Depew earned his medical degree at the Medical College of Virginia School of Medicine in Richmond, VA. After his surgical residency at Memorial Health, Dr. Depew completed 3 years of fellowship training in plastic surgery at the University of Tennessee in Memphis. The fellowship included training in a range of reconstruction procedures including cosmetic, traumatic, and cancer. Dr. Depew was also involved in researching facial animation and surgical quality care improvements.
Plastic surgery, says Dr. Depew, “is a field that knows few boundaries. There is not an area of the body that I don’t work on, I enjoy the challenge of taking on problems that require creative solutions outside the scope of a normal, routine practice.”

Dr. Depew was inducted in 2014 as a member of the Arnold P. Gold Foundation for dedication and commitment to compassionate and humanistic care. That occurred a year after he received the Excellence in Teaching Award from the medical students at Mercer University Medical School.

Dr. Depew’s wife, Jessa, is a regional medical director for a pharmaceutical company treating rare organ diseases. Their sons study Mandarin and Spanish at the Atlanta Trilingual Academy. In his spare time, Dr. Depew enjoys scuba diving and international travel. He has a keen eye for beauty and ranks natural light photography as one of his favorite hobbies.
