What Your Rhinoplasty Can Achieve

Rhinoplasty is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures at our plastic surgery practice near Atlanta and nationwide. It’s also one of the most technically demanding surgeries. The nose is a complex structure, and it can differ a lot from patient to patient. Because of these complexities, the surgery has some limitations. In this post, we will discuss what a rhinoplasty can and can’t do.
It is not an easy surgery to perform because the nasal passages are delicate and the nose structure itself is quite small compared to other common plastic surgery treatment areas, such as the breasts or abdomen. That’s why it’s so important to choose a board-certified plastic surgeon with extensive experience performing rhinoplasty surgery.
I create a surgical plan that is obviously designed to meet a patient’s cosmetic goals. Beyond that, though, I carefully plan to make sure the nose complements the patient’s existing facial features, for a result that’s proportional and unique in its beauty. Fortunately, rhinoplasty is a highly customizable procedure that can be tailored to your needs.
Most often, patients come to our practice for treatment that corrects one or more of the following:

  • Disproportionate nose size in relation to the face
  • Wide nasal bridge
  • Nose profile with visible humps or depressions on the bridge
  • Nasal tip that is enlarged or bulbous, drooping, upturned, or hooked
  • Nostrils that are large, wide or upturned
  • Nasal asymmetry

Rhinoplasty surgery can make a dramatic difference in a person’s overall facial appearance. The nose is the focal point of the face, so even a minor tweak can result in major changes in how you look. Having said that, you must have realistic expectations for your results. It is important to understand that while rhinoplasty can create a more symmetrical appearance, there is no guarantee that it can result in absolute symmetry.
The most important point to keep in mind is that rhinoplasty surgery cannot make you look like someone else. We all have different facial structures, and your specific facial structure is the main determining factor of which nose size and shape will work best for you.
Having said that, it is still a good idea to bring in pictures of noses you do and don’t like. Even though you may not be able to get the type of nose you want exactly, these photos will give your surgeon a better understanding of what you are hoping to achieve. Your surgeon will be able to discuss the best options for your facial structure and will give you a better idea of what to expect from your surgery.
